Private home basement works create fears of more flooding

People living near Witanhurst Mansion in Highgate in north London saw their cellars flood after work was carried out to build a £50 million double storey basement at the stately home.
Kate Moss reportedly had to pay thousands in basement repairs because of flooding, and now there are fears the same could happen again after new plans were submitted for further works at the mansion.
Lady Gillian Sergeant, 86, has lived in The Grove, near to Witanhurst, with her husband for nearly 60 years. She said her home had not flooded before works at the stately home began in 2010.
She told the Ham and High newspaper: “We had awful flooding when water came up and flooded the cellar.
“We had to get the builders in. We’ve had it ever since they’ve been working on Witanhurst.
