Ravi Govindia, leader of Wandsworth Council, explained the link will prevent commuters from having to travel into Zone 1 unnecessarily, and therefore paying Zone 1 fares. He also pointed out that it will help to create new jobs in Battersea and provide a boost to the regeneration of Clapham Junction town centre. "Our next job is to secure major new investment in Clapham Junction station and to bring Tube services to this vital interchange," he stated. The extension means that the London Overground network now runs all the way around the city centre, as well as out to some of the capital's major suburbs. London mayor Boris Johnson said: "This fantastic new orbital railway will provide Londoners with the ability to zip around the edge of the city quickly and easily, without the need to travel in and out of the centre."
