Income from adverts was up 11 per cent in the third quarter thanks in part to a comparison with last year, when the BBC's dominance of the Olympics deterred advertisers.

The broadcaster's production arm, ITV Studios, delivered an 11 per cent rise in sales to Ј555million in the first nine months.
The increase is a boost to chief executive Adam Crozier's efforts to reduce reliance on companies' dwindling television advertising budgets.
