Catford is soon to be the sight of a unique dining experience with the launch of a pop-up restaurant this weekend. Over Friday 25th and Saturday 26th of this month the Catford Canteen will begin serving food lovers and continue to do so each weekend throughout the autumn. The interesting dining experience is being hosted by the Basement Gallery, which has had a number of successful underground restaurant experiences in the past. This project follows on from the organisation's most recent and incredibly popular The Underground Supper Club, which was hosted in East London. Catford Canteen will offer a wide range of gastro specialities, which change with each of its weekly openings, allowing customers to experience different types of food. The proceedings will kick off on Friday night, with customers set to enjoy a varied five-course meal. This new Catford pop-up experience has been organised after the Catford Broadway Supper Club proved to be so successful. The previous pop-up dining experience offered people the chance to try different foods from different chefs each weekend, which allowed local food businesses to showcase themselves. A number of food businesses are signed up to cook for the most recent pop-up offering, including Colonel Toms, Two Hungry Bees, Brockley Brewery Company and Pastificio Mansi. All of the chefs will cook up something different and interesting, with menus ranging from Vietnamese to Barbadian. Alex Cooper, director of Basement Gallery, said: "We're honoured to be launching this new and exciting venue. Most of what we do is in East London so it's great to see things happening in this part of London. I also think it's great that the Catford Canteen is a Council run initiative. "Opening a restaurant is expensive so a pop-up restaurant with a fully fitted kitchen, furniture and business support is perfect for budding food entrepreneurs who want to test out their offer before committing to something more permanent."
